The Roos Roost Story: How Our Homesteading Journey Began

 

Roos Roost started as a dream—a simple idea to reconnect with nature and live a life filled with purpose and self-sustainability. It all began with a small backyard garden, a few coturnix quail, and a curiosity about raising our own food. Quail were our first adventure into homesteading, and they quickly taught us lessons in patience, adaptability, and the joy of watching nature up close. Their quick growth, unique calls, and delicious eggs captured our hearts and left us eager for more.

 

As we grew more confident, we expanded our flock to include chickens, then waterfowl, and eventually turkeys. Each new addition brought its own charm and personality, teaching us about the unique needs and quirks of different species. The ducks and geese quickly became family members, delighting us with their playful antics and the way they transformed our yard into a lively, thriving ecosystem.

 

With every step, we’ve worked to create a safe, happy home for our animals, balancing free-ranging during the day with safety at night. Watching them forage, explore, and thrive has been the highlight of our journey. What started as a simple curiosity has grown into a passion for sustainable living and building meaningful connections with the natural world.

 

Today, Roos Roost is more than just a homestead—it’s a way of life. From the quick-paced energy of the quail to the calm presence of our waterfowl, and now, the newest addition to our family: rabbits. These gentle creatures bring yet another layer of joy and purpose to our homestead. Every animal has a role to play, and each one adds something special to our lives.

 

We’re proud to share our journey, the lessons we’ve learned, and the care we put into raising happy, healthy animals. Whether it’s the tiny, speckled quail eggs, the waddling ducks, or the warm comfort of a rabbit in your arms, Roos Roost is a celebration of all the beauty and fulfillment that comes with a life connected to nature.
